Groupon, a global eCommerce retailer offering daily local deals, faced intense competition as its rapid growth drew many new entrants. To retain customers, attract new ones and sustain its expansion, Groupon needed to continue innovating its user experience and streamline customer acquisition across mobile channels.

Pivotal Labs built a BlackBerry mobile app that let users discover localized deals (in 48 countries), get on-demand "Groupon Now!" offers, sign up in-app, purchase and redeem deals, track purchases by location and date, and share deals via BBM. The app reached millions of users, was praised for its UI, and drove significant mobile commerce—24% of North American Groupons purchased in December 2011 came from the mobile app.
