Case Study: Southwark Council achieves easy, mobile-friendly GIS access for staff and residents with Pitney Bowes Spectrum Spatial Analyst

A Pitney Bowes Case Study

Preview of the Southwark Council Case Study

Southwark Council delivers GIS data for not-too-techie users

Southwark Council, a London borough, needed a more modern, mobile-friendly GIS for non-technical users to access mission‑critical location data. After evaluating eight options, the council selected Pitney Bowes' Spectrum Spatial Analyst because its intuitive, consumer-style interface and Location Intelligence capabilities fit the needs of planners, engineers, contact‑centre staff and social workers better than traditional GIS tools.

Working with Pitney Bowes Professional Services, Southwark customized Spectrum Spatial Analyst—integrating Google StreetView and local land and property data—so hundreds of council employees (and residents via public access since November 2017) can click a map to view, annotate and query address-based datasets. The solution delivered measurable operational benefits: faster, more precise identification of affected businesses after the 2017 London Bridge attack for targeted tax relief, and rapid concentric‑zone contact lists for bomb‑risk evacuations, demonstrating real time savings and improved accuracy using Pitney Bowes’ platform.
