Manchester University drives mailroom efficiencies and automates package delivery

The University of Manchester, one of the UK’s largest single‑site universities with around 39,000 students and over 8,000 student bedrooms, faced growing mailroom challenges: a manual pen‑and‑paper process, mislaid parcel slips, long storage times and limited space. To modernize package handling and improve student experience, the University turned to Pitney Bowes and its SendSuite® Package Tracking and Delivery Software.

Pitney Bowes implemented SendSuite with barcode scanning, autogenerated barcodes, email notifications, printed location labels and digital signature capture, bringing mail operations into the digital age. The change cut item logging to about 30 seconds (roughly 50% faster than the old paper system), reduced lost slips and excessive parcel storage at peak times, improved accountability with searchable records and signatures, and delivered measurable time and staffing efficiencies for the University — all delivered by Pitney Bowes.
