Nordstrom, a major U.S. retailer, set out to use Pinterest to inspire customers and turn visual discovery into measurable engagement and sales. As an early adopter, the challenge was to test what content and experiences would resonate on the platform, spread virally, and influence merchandising and buying decisions across digital and physical channels.
Nordstrom added the Save button, curated trend-driven boards (including Our Favorite Things and seasonal collections), used Pinterest Analytics weekly to surface Top Pins, and promoted those items on-site, in emails and in stores—supported by an internal iPad app and in‑store Top Pinned signage. The approach grew their Pinterest audience to about 4.4 million followers, generated hundreds of thousands of monthly engagements and millions of impressions, drove significant site traffic and demand, and improved in‑store sell-through, leading to a national rollout across all 117 stores.
