BobVila.com, the digital extension of the longtime TV home‑improvement brand Bob Vila, set out to grow awareness and drive more website traffic — particularly among male readers — by building a stronger presence on Pinterest. Early on they faced the challenge of learning which Pins would actually resonate with their audience.

They tested and saved 22,000+ Pins across topic boards, shifted to practical how‑to content with text overlays, and used Pinterest Analytics and Tailwind scheduling to guide and time their Pinning. The result: Pinterest referrals rose 33% year‑over‑year (more than 1 million pageviews/month for much of 2015), 15% of visits came from male Pinners with that audience growing about 20% month‑over‑month, and Pinterest-driven visitors browse twice as many pages as organic search traffic.
