L’Équipe, France’s leading national sports daily with 2.8 million daily users and 15 billion monthly page views, faced the challenge of maximizing engagement and revenue from a subscription-and-advertising model. The digital team needed robust analytics to guide editorial choices (what to publish, when and how), control free vs. paid distribution, and activate data for personalization, recommendation and user scoring.
Using Piano’s analytics, L’Équipe optimized content creation and UX (topic prioritization, menu and page-position changes, selective free-article publishing) and deployed behavioral-driven content recommendations. The changes drove an 80% increase in page views and a 113% rise in subscriptions, with ongoing plans to deliver fully personalized homepages and article follow-ups for each subscriber.
