A Phrase Localization Platform Case Study
Stockholm University’s Institute for Interpreting and Translation Studies runs an online course for active interpreters to meet growing demand for translation between Swedish and WANA (West Asian North African) languages driven by recent demographic changes. Teaching remotely to students across Sweden created a need for a simple, platform-independent tool that reliably handles right-to-left scripts and special characters without time-consuming installs or technical problems.
The institute adopted Memsource and Memsource MT, a cloud-based CAT solution that supports all WANA languages with correct characters and directionality, a low learning curve, and access from any device — even tablets on the move. This reduced technical hiccups and freed up teaching time; although MT quality for some WANA languages varies, students gained practical CAT skills and market-ready workflows, and the course expanded to include Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Somali and Tigrinya.
