Practical Translation Training at the Universidad Europea de Madrid

Universidad Europea de Madrid’s Department of Translation, led by Dr. Celia Rico—founder of the non-profit Agencia Traducción Solidaria UEM—needed a practical way to train students in the vocational skills required by today’s translation market. In 2016 Dr. Rico introduced cloud-based workflows to give students hands-on experience with real project processes, including translation memory, terminology, machine translation and post-editing, as well as team management.

Using Memsource’s Academic program, the course reproduces end-to-end translation projects: students set up TMs, select and evaluate MT engines, perform post-editing and manage translator teams. The result is a market-ready curriculum that lets students complete assignments in a professional platform and supports three-month internships with external companies in their final year.
