A Phrase Localization Platform Case Study
A university‑industry localization program at the Middlebury Institute partnered with Memsource to move beyond a pilot and better prepare translation students for the job market. The challenge was scaling the pilot while giving students real‑world experience with CAT tools, localization workflows, and portfolio projects that would make them competitive with employers.
The solution embedded Memsource across courses (Website Localization, Localization Practicum, Advanced CAT Tools), where students localized real websites for nonprofits, built smarter TMs/TBs, and used plugins to support continuous localization. As a result the project scaled to a full program, students like Susan Wang could demonstrate practical tool and project management skills in interviews, and graduates have secured roles in the localization industry.
