Cutting 15% of Translation Costs with Artificial Intelligence

Semantix, the largest language company in the Nordics, needed to reduce translation time and costs while giving clients transparent quotes that don’t charge for content that doesn’t require translation. To address this, Semantix piloted Memsource’s new AI‑powered Non‑translatables, which automatically detects segments such as names, codes, URLs, numbers and other items that shouldn’t be translated.

The AI identified many more non‑translatable segments than rule‑based methods and proved reliable (94% of 100% non‑translatable matches needed no edits; 61% of fuzzy matches needed no edits). In a 150,000‑word French project the weighted word count dropped from 87,000 to 65,000, no‑match segments fell from 51% to 36% (a 15‑point drop), and translator costs fell from €13,035 to €9,689—resulting in faster delivery, higher translator productivity and clearer, lower client pricing.
