Shiftbase is a Netherlands-based B2B SaaS company that provides workforce scheduling, time tracking, and time-off management to over 3,000 customers across multiple European offices. While they already supported Dutch, English, and German, adding each new language required up to 3,500 key changes and heavy developer involvement, slowing product releases and limiting market expansion. Shiftbase needed a language-agnostic, software-focused translation workflow that would let them manage freelance translators and automate release, review, and testing processes without tying up engineering resources.
They implemented Phrase to automate software localization and centralize workflows, global settings, and releases. As a result they launched four new languages (French, Spanish, Polish, and Swedish) in under six months, cut translators’ and editors’ time by about 50%, and eliminated developer time spent on translation management. New languages can be set up within a month, enabling faster market entry, measurable growth and market share gains (including increased traction in German-speaking markets), and the ability to scale localization without adding developer headcount.
