Alight Solutions validates 85%+ of fraud flags with Phenom

Alight Solutions, a benefits administration company, faced significant challenges with candidate fraud during its high-volume, low-touch seasonal hiring process. The manual review process was unable to reliably detect patterns of fraud, such as the same person applying under different names or candidates submitting near-identical resumes. This left the company at risk of investing time and resources in fraudulent candidates until a background check flagged them late in the process. To address this, Alight turned to Phenom to test its Fraud Detection Agent.

Phenom's solution, the Fraud Detection Agent, works across the hiring journey to flag potential fraud, such as duplicate applications and identity inconsistencies during video interviews. In an initial test on four requisitions, the Phenom agent analyzed 175 candidates and detected 537 warning signals. After human review, 134 warnings were validated, achieving an 85%+ confidence rate. Alight found the agent to be highly reliable, with most high-severity cases being grounds to stop the hiring process with a candidate, allowing them to catch fraud much earlier.
