Offering Meaningful Choices to Increase Mental Health Awareness, Engagement & Outcomes

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), a 14,000+ employee pediatric health system, faced rising anxiety, stress and safety concerns among both frontline and remote staff during the pandemic and social unrest. Worry about exposing family members and commuting amid protests made clear that CHOP needed a stronger, more visible mental health strategy for a diverse workforce.

CHOP’s Manager of Wellbeing partnered with Virgin Pulse to deliver a personalized suite of social, mental and physical wellbeing programs accessible via an app—things like virtual support groups, meditation, fitness classes and curated content. The initiative drove strong adoption and engagement (75% enrollment, ~80% monthly engagement), boosted wellbeing culture, and produced measurable outcomes: 80% of staff reported increased productivity, 33% adopted mindfulness tools and employees completed over 10,000 content journeys.
