Monarch Beverage Company, Indiana’s largest beer and wine distributor, partnered with Virgin Pulse in 2014 to expand a 15-year wellness effort into a holistic employee wellbeing program. The company’s goal was to weave wellbeing into its culture and boost engagement across its workforce.
Using quarterly, company-wide challenges on the Virgin Pulse platform (notably the “Indy 500 Challenge”), Monarch tapped friendly competition and social connection to drive participation — employees averaged 330 interactions per member during the challenge and about 10.9K daily steps. The initiative delivered measurable results: 63% overall company engagement, 82% of members achieving recommended physical activity, a reduction in high‑risk members, and sustained increases in activity and workplace wellbeing.
