Equinix, Inc. Sees Major Cost Savings as Engagement Increases

Equinix, a global leader in colocation data centers with roughly 4,000 eligible U.S. employees and staff across 30+ countries, wanted to reduce population health risks, improve healthy behaviors, and create a consistent culture of wellbeing across diverse roles and locations.

Partnering with Virgin Pulse, Equinix deployed best-practice engagement tactics—a strong Champions network, quarterly performance reviews, leveled points programming, equal incentive opportunities, HRA and care-checklist triggers, and broad promotions (including virtual Open Houses). The program drove 59% enrollment and 53% average engagement, a 39% increase in members, and achieved Level 4 participation; higher engagement correlated with much lower costs and illness burden (Level 4 PEPY $3,814 vs Level 1 $8,237) and top-quartile members realized up to $5,146 PEPY savings, with overall savings of about $4,423 PEPY.
