How The Colorado Health Foundation built performance management to respond to the needs of their employees

The Colorado Health Foundation, a nonprofit in Denver with 75-150 employees, needed a performance management approach that could better fit the wide variety of work across its teams. Using PerformYard, the foundation moved away from overly rigid review forms and structured goals, and instead looked for a more flexible way to support ongoing employee-manager conversations and annual goal-setting.

PerformYard helped the foundation implement its “Staff Excellence” program with quarterly conversations, annual goal-setting, open-ended forms, and custom cycles by team or department. The result was a more fluid, organization-wide performance process that teams could adapt to their specific needs, while still keeping everyone on the same system. The case study does not cite hard metrics, but it highlights improved flexibility, simpler reviews, and a performance process that has continued to evolve over time.
