Reducing Stroke Time to Treatment with Real-Time Communication Technology

St. Rita’s Medical Center, the largest hospital in a 70-mile radius in Lima, OH, faced inconsistent and slow stroke team response times caused by reliance on overhead paging, which delayed critical milestones like CT interpretation and tPA administration. To address this, the hospital expanded its use of PerfectServe’s clinical communication platform—specifically the care team alerts module—to replace intercom codes and streamline urgent notifications.

PerfectServe implemented real‑time mobile and desktop care team alerts, interactive call schedules, and status-based routing, and St. Rita’s added notifications for tPA administration, ICU transfers, and pharmacy involvement. As a result, response times became faster and more consistent: physicians are now at the bedside in about 10 minutes, CTs are ordered within 15 minutes, and scan results are available within the 45‑minute guideline, helping the hospital surpass industry time‑to‑treatment goals.
