Patreon, the subscription platform for musicians, podcasters, and other creators, faced a sudden challenge when COVID-19 shutdowns shuttered in-person events and many local businesses lost revenue. The company needed to quickly raise awareness of new resources and help nontraditional creators (restaurant owners, yoga studios, etc.) launch paid memberships and virtual offerings—without heavy engineering support.
Patreon used Pendo to deliver targeted in-app guides, personalized onboarding flows, and analytics-driven messaging to the right users at the right time, plus promoted virtual events like “The Show Up.” Between March and August 2020 more than 100,000 creators (including 7,000 local businesses) joined, thousands engaged with campaigns, and many businesses stayed on as long-term subscribers after seeing ongoing value.
