IHS Markit’s product team for iLEVEL, their cloud platform for private market investors, faced a common but critical challenge: decades of development had created technical debt and an unclear picture of which features should be retired to make room for higher-value work. Relying on one-off conversations with account managers wasn’t giving them reliable, actionable insight into real user behavior or who would be affected by sunsetting features.

Using Pendo, the team tracked feature usage, user paths and browser segments to flag underused features, identify the users and workflows still relying on them, and tailor communications and migrations. The result: data-driven retirements, smoother user transitions, better prioritization (including deprioritizing low-impact bug fixes), and a refocus of resources on the functionality that matters most to clients.
