U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service Creating a Single Interface for Delivering Conservation

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) needed to streamline how it delivers technical and financial conservation assistance to landowners. Staff were spending excessive time logging into disparate systems and performing manual administrative tasks, which limited field time and slowed program delivery.

NRCS partnered with Pega to build the Conservation Desktop (CD) under the Conservation Delivery Streamlining Initiative (CDSI), creating a single interface with document and task management, audit history, and a geospatial, map‑driven conservation planning workflow. The initiative is projected to free 1,523 staff years for higher‑value work, save customers more than 750,000 hours annually, and accelerate delivery while reducing risk through agile practices.
