Express Scripts, the largest pharmacy benefit manager in the U.S., needed to reduce silos across its Center of Excellence (COE) and manage 24 applications with a large developer team spread across two countries. Working with Pegasystems and its Pega platform, the company sought a way to unify disparate applications, improve governance, and increase ROI from its technology investments.
Pegasystems helped Express Scripts implement a common layer within the COE to consolidate applications, reusable components, and design patterns, while also building a stronger developer ecosystem through training, apprenticeships, and certification. The results included annual COE savings of $1.8M–$2.4M, a common layer supporting about 13 applications, 65+ rule sets, and 200 integrations, faster universal upgrades, and an 85% certification rate among developers in training.
