A Pegasystems Case Study
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), a U.S. Department of Justice law‑enforcement and regulatory agency, faced operational limits from a suite of applications developed in 1998. Aging infrastructure, limited functionality, and compartmentalized data hindered investigators’ ability to work quickly and accurately in the field or the office, so ATF needed a single modern, web‑ and mobile‑capable case management system.
Using the Pega platform, ATF consolidated four legacy systems into a unified case management solution that provides real‑time, cross‑system access to data and supports mobile field work. Adopting agile practices with business and IT collaboration allowed the first application to ship a month early and sustain one-to-two updates per week; Pega is also being used to maintain the fugitive database and to develop additional investigation support systems.
