Teachers Pay Teachers - Customer Case Study

Teachers Pay Teachers, a New York–based online marketplace where educators buy and sell millions of teaching resources, needed a reliable, flexible payments solution as they worked to decompose a PHP monolith into services with a decoupled React frontend. With prior GraphQL experience, the company chose to integrate Braintree’s GraphQL API to handle payments while keeping their backend language and simplifying their payment flow.

Using Braintree’s GraphQL API removed extra steps in the payment flow, reduced inter‑platform network requests, and improved site performance and reliability. As a result, Teachers Pay Teachers saw fewer delays or downtime during traffic spikes (such as back‑to‑school sales) and increased confidence that teachers could access resources without interruption.
