A PayPal Case Study
SavvyMom, a Toronto‑based online resource for Canadian parents, relied on ad sales and a promotional circular called ShopSavvy to monetize its site. Many advertisers were small, first‑time entrepreneurs who routinely missed payments — about 10% defaulted — and chasing delinquent accounts consumed a disproportionate amount of time and threatened cash flow.
SavvyMom adopted PayPal Payments Standard and PayPal Invoicing to send email invoices and request payment in advance, allowing advertisers to pay instantly (even from personal accounts). The change produced a 100% collection rate for smaller advertisers, simplified and secured invoicing and accounting, eliminated time spent chasing payments, and enabled the founder to manage billing herself with automated reporting for bookkeeping.
