How a unique partnership raises millions of dollars for hunger relief

Feeding America, the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the U.S., faced an immediate and massive surge in demand when the COVID‑19 pandemic disrupted food supplies and increased food insecurity. The organization needed to rapidly scale funding and distribution across its network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs to meet unprecedented community needs.

Feeding America partnered with PayPal and PayPal Giving Fund, integrating PayPal/Braintree payment processing, Give at Checkout, streaming platform donations, and a strengthened peer‑to‑peer fundraising model to capture donations across channels and optimize mobile experiences. The collaboration enabled secure, high-volume processing and widespread visibility—resulting in $33.1 million raised with PayPal in 2020 (including $2.8 million via PayPal Giving Fund)—and allowed Feeding America to quickly deliver resources where they were needed most.
