Giant Eagle, a community-focused supermarket chain, wanted to speed up and simplify checkout and support omnichannel shopping as customer habits changed. The retailer aimed to improve time-through-checkout and make in-store, curbside, and online experiences more seamless for a range of shoppers.
Partnering with PayPal, Giant Eagle introduced QR-code payments for PayPal and Venmo in stores (the first supermarket to do so in 2022), leveraging PayPal’s trust and safety to accelerate checkout. The integration improved time-through-checkout, drove higher‑value orders from Venmo users, increased repeat purchases from PayPal customers, and enhanced convenience for younger and omnichannel shoppers.
