Case Study: Fanatics boosts sales and average order value with PayPal's Venmo

A PayPal Case Study

Preview of the Fanatics Case Study

Fanatics - Customer Case Study

Fanatics, a global leader in licensed sports merchandise and multi‑channel commerce, wanted to attract younger shoppers and improve checkout conversion for its largely mobile audience. With roughly 70% of transactions on mobile and an average shopper age of 37–39, the company needed a seamless, mobile‑friendly payment option to boost average order value and drive incremental sales.

Fanatics integrated Venmo via PayPal’s SDK (plus a QR option for desktop) across nine US sites with minimal lift and saw strong results: Venmo AOV averaged $83 (about 2× expectations) and was comparable to credit cards, outperformed other APMs on key KPIs, and added clear incrementality. A Venmo marketing campaign produced a 10% sales lift and 8% more engaged users, helping Fanatics reach younger buyers and increase conversions.
