Direct Relief is a global humanitarian organization (founded 1948) that delivers medical aid to people affected by disasters, conflict, and poverty across the U.S. and more than 95 countries. Because speed and targeted funding are essential, the nonprofit needed easier ways to reach new donors beyond low‑yield channels like direct mail and to scale donations quickly during emergencies.
Partnering with PayPal Giving Fund gave Direct Relief a profile on PayPal’s fundraising platform and access to hundreds of millions of PayPal users in 200+ markets, enabling frictionless, no‑fee donations. Since 2016 the nonprofit has raised over $8.9M through PayPal Giving Fund, helping accelerate responses to hurricanes, wildfires, and crises worldwide—contributing to Direct Relief’s 2019 delivery of $1.28B in medical material aid and $20.92M in financial support to partners.
