The Canadian Red Cross, which provides disaster relief and humanitarian aid, needed to add a new online donation channel in the immediate aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake to engage as many Canadian donors as possible. The challenge was to implement the channel quickly without diverting already overstretched staff during a major emergency.

PayPal was rapidly integrated as a payment option within the Artez Interactive fundraising platform and promoted on PayPal’s site, giving the campaign exposure to millions of users. The rollout was immediate and effective — thousands were raised in the first hour, PayPal accounted for more than 10% of donations through Artez, and the channel helped amplify donations quickly and cost‑efficiently.
