Nextdoor is a private social network that helps neighbors connect across more than 57,000 U.S. neighborhoods. After launching in 2011 the engineering team grew from five people and every incident notified everyone, which caused missed sleep, miscommunication, missed issues, and no clear way to track or audit on-call responsibility and response metrics.

Implementing PagerDuty centralized and routed alerts to the right people, created clear ownership, and enabled tracking of MTTA and MTTR for rigorous post‑mortems. Response times improved, the on-call process scaled with the growing engineering team, and reliability increased—“we actually do sleep now.”
