Nexleaf Analytics Uses PagerDuty to Prevent Deadly Blackouts in Hospitals Across Kenya

Nexleaf Analytics, a nonprofit technology company, faced the challenge of helping hospitals in Kenya manage unreliable electricity and avoid dangerous blackouts that could disrupt patient care. Using PagerDuty alongside IoT sensors, Nexleaf built a real-time monitoring system for power outages and generator usage across hospitals, enabling biomedical engineers to move from reactive checks to proactive power management.

PagerDuty helped Nexleaf streamline alerts and improve visibility into backup power, so staff could respond faster, keep generators fueled, and contact power providers sooner during outages. The solution scaled from 8 hospitals to 23, reduced unnecessary diesel spending and last-minute fuel runs, and helped shorten outages while protecting uninterrupted care for patients.
