inFranken.de Increases Engagement and Monetization of Facebook Traffic

inFranken.de, the regional news portal of Mediengruppe Oberfranken and one of Franconia’s largest online publishers, faced high bounce rates and poor engagement from Facebook referral traffic. Working with Outbrain since September 2018, the publisher sought to boost reader engagement and monetize social traffic more effectively.

They added a mid-article "Read More" button paired with Outbrain’s recommendation engine to surface relevant internal and external content earlier in the article, giving readers an immediate choice to continue reading or discover related stories. The change drove organic CTR up ~192% (nearly 3x), reduced Facebook referral bounce rates by 76%, and increased monetization/RPM by 132%.
