BurdaVerlag, a subsidiary of Hubert Burda Media that publishes 155 magazines and about 100 digital properties (including cooking sites einfachbacken.de, daskochrezept.de and meine-familie-und-ich.de), wanted to increase monetization after an initial rollout of Outbrain’s solutions. The publisher aimed to raise ad viewability and revenue but was cautious about adding a second widget that might disrupt users following recipes.
Outbrain used proprietary placement-optimization technology to identify a non-intrusive spot for a second widget, preserving the page experience while boosting monetization. The result: strong performance uplifts — RPM increases of +53% (einfachbacken.de), +82% (daskochrezept.de) and +75% (meine-familie-und-ich.de), and a +96% revenue increase on daskochrezept.de.
