Case Study: Rakuten achieves rapid Exadata migration and boosted engineering database skills with Oracle (Oracle University & Oracle Consulting)

A Oracle Case Study

Preview of the Rakuten Case Study

Rakuten Raises Engineers’ Database Knowledge and Skills in Less Than Six Months, Enables Rapid Deployment, and Maximizes Business Performance

Rakuten, Japan’s largest online shopping mall and a broad internet-services company, needed to migrate its core databases to Oracle Exadata while ensuring engineers had the skills to configure, monitor, and optimize the new platform. The challenge was to rapidly upskill engineers with up-to-date Oracle Database knowledge, create role-based training and certification paths, and provide post‑implementation support to minimize migration risk and maximize service performance.

Rakuten partnered with Oracle University and Oracle Consulting for a systemized fast‑track curriculum and ongoing expert support; 15 engineers completed SQL and administration training in less than six months. The program established a clear learning path, increased engineer confidence, enabled rapid deployment of Exadata, improved online‑shopping performance through better tuning and monitoring, and created an ongoing training framework for continued post‑implementation support.
