San Francisco SPCA, a nonprofit animal protection organization in San Francisco, faced costly, time-consuming manual processes across finance, inventory, veterinary operations and more. Reliant on a desktop Blackbaud solution and sprawling Excel spreadsheets (including 50‑tab “Excel nightmares”), the SPCA lacked real-time visibility, drill-down capability and confidence in its data, which created inefficiency and error-prone work.

Working with Oracle + NetSuite Social Impact and implementation partner Demand Solutions Group, the SPCA replaced Blackbaud and Excel with NetSuite ERP and Inventory Management (live mid‑2010). The result: real-time, centralized financials and stronger audit compliance; productivity gains across 20+ departments and 220 users; avoidance of 5 FTEs in finance and a reduction in monthly close from 10 to 5 days; 20–30 IT hours saved per month; and a 50% efficiency improvement managing 5,000 inventory items—savings that are redirected to animal care and advocacy.
