Schibsted Media Group, Norway’s historic media house, needed to keep print readers loyal while moving them to digital in a market with high churn and frequent free-trial hopping. The team’s priority was precise churn prediction and targeting retention efforts at customers with the highest probability of leaving.
By combining a churn-prediction model with Oracle Marketing Cloud (Eloqua) and using behavioral, CRM and third‑party data, Schibsted ran highly targeted retention and personalized newsletter campaigns—most notably the “Need Help?” campaign. Results included a 19% increase in retention, a 23% boost in subscribers’ digital usage, a campaign peak retention of 73% that generated ~770,000 NOK (~$90k), 49% unique open and 10% click rates, 121% higher engagement and article completion rising to 54%.
