Ustream, a live interactive broadcast platform, needed to maximize the number of broadcast sessions on a new opt-in beta layout. The team was split between two call-to-action designs — a camera icon alone versus the camera icon with the word “Broadcast” — and wanted data rather than intuition to determine which would drive more user engagement.

Using Optimizely they ran an A/B click-goal test on just over 12,000 visitors for four days and found a clear, statistically significant winner: the camera icon plus “Broadcast” increased broadcast sessions by 12% (13.2% vs. 11.8%), enabling Ustream to confidently deploy the better-performing design.
