Mid Sweden University unifies digital channels onto one platform

Mid Sweden University (Mittuniversitetet) is a Swedish higher-education institution that long emphasized virtual learning and high accessibility. The university faced the challenge of unifying many digital channels—including the public site, student and employee portals and about 15 project sites—onto a single, scalable platform while supporting personalized digital teaching, seasonal traffic spikes and public access requirements for most intranet pages.

To meet this, Mid Sweden University migrated Miun.se and the student portal to the Optimizely Digital Experience Platform in the cloud with Knowit as a development partner, and moved its 25,000-image archive to the cloud-based ImageVault. The consolidated platform improved reliability and scalability during peak application periods, centralised content management for ~7,500 pages and 100+ editors, enabled personalization and new AI-assisted media features (automatic tagging, video tools), and reinforced transparency and accessibility goals (over 98% intranet content publicly available).
