A OpenStack Case Study

Preview of the American Airlines Case Study

Challenges and battle scars from OpenStack deployments

American Airlines set out to build a hybrid cloud strategy with an internal data center and public cloud, using OpenStack to support business agility, portability, and a DevOps culture. The company’s challenge was integrating OpenStack with existing networking, backup, monitoring, SLAs, and other enterprise systems while choosing the right distribution and architecture.

OpenStack, working with DXC as a managed services provider, helped American Airlines implement a converged platform and bring its Bag Tracker baggage-handling application into production. The result was a web-based app that enables end-to-end tracking of passenger bags, priority parcels, and aircraft equipment, with American Airlines reporting benefits such as easier implementation and maintenance, faster rollouts, and improved speed to market for key cloud workloads.
