A OpenGov Case Study
The customer, Taylor County, West Virginia, was part of a statewide initiative, Project Mountaineer, aimed at addressing a crisis of trust in government by increasing financial transparency. The challenge was to provide citizens with clear access to how taxpayer dollars were being spent without placing a financial burden on the local municipalities. The solution was implemented using OpenGov's financial reporting software.
OpenGov provided a modern, cloud-based platform that automated financial reporting and made complex data digestible for the average citizen. This allowed Taylor County and other participating entities to showcase expenditures in real-time, building constituent trust and holding officials accountable. As a result, West Virginia became one of the most transparent states in the U.S., with 40 counties, 50 cities, and 55 school boards using OpenGov to provide unprecedented access to financial information.
