North Smithfield, RI Launches Cloud Permitting in 30 Days

The Town of North Smithfield, RI needed to modernize its paper-based permitting process and make it easier for residents and contractors to apply and pay for permits online. Working with OpenGov and its Permitting & Licensing product, the town took part in Rhode Island’s statewide ePermitting initiative to quickly streamline implementation and move applications into the cloud.

OpenGov helped North Smithfield launch its new ePermitting platform in just 30 days, starting with one department and expanding from there. The online portal now supports more than eight permit types, and the Building Department received 31 online applications in the first week after go-live, speeding up reviews, improving accuracy, and reducing manual tracking and paperwork.
