A OpenGov Case Study
The City of Milpitas, CA needed a better way to manage budgeting in a resource-constrained environment and find savings without cutting positions. Working with OpenGov and its Budgeting & Planning tools, the city sought to move from incremental budgeting to a more strategic process while also improving transparency and public engagement.
OpenGov helped Milpitas launch a new budget system in just eight weeks, use scenario planning for COVID-related uncertainty, and publish a transparency portal for residents. The results included more than 100 hours saved in annual budget work, over $4 million in personnel cost savings across two budget cycles, and a Council discussion that dropped from about two hours of questions to just two questions.
