How Technology Helped Hempfield Township Reimagine Business Processes

Hempfield Township, PA needed to modernize outdated, paper-heavy workflows across permitting, planning, inspections, code compliance, and finance, while also improving transparency and collaboration across departments. The Township chose OpenGov, including OpenGov Permitting & Licensing and OpenGov Reporting & Transparency, to help staff work more efficiently and better serve residents in a post-pandemic, increasingly digital environment.

OpenGov implemented a paperless, online workflow that unified four major departments on one platform, reduced manual steps, and made it easier for residents to submit applications and documents electronically. As a result, Hempfield Township saw strong public adoption, with residents “ecstatic” about the upgrade, and staff gained a more streamlined process with less paperwork and better communication; the Township is also moving toward OpenGov Financials to further consolidate systems and improve cross-departmental efficiency.
