A OpenGov Case Study

Preview of the Denton, Texas Case Study

Denton, Texas empowers residents with 71 datasets using OpenGov

The city of Denton, Texas sought a robust open data solution to empower its residents and businesses by making public information accessible in a meaningful way. Their challenge was that data released in formats like PDFs was not easily consumed or understood, preventing the tech community from building applications and limiting public access. To address this, Denton partnered with vendor OpenGov to implement its OpenGov Open Data™ solution.

OpenGov implemented its Managed CKAN solution, providing Denton with a managed, open-source open data platform. This enabled the city to upload 71 machine-readable datasets, which residents and developers can now easily download and use. The solution freed up internal resources, provided access to a community of developers for new features, and removed the previous barriers to data access, empowering the entire community with usable public information.
