Cocoa Beach, FL, Prepares for Rapid Development with Streamlined Permitting and Licensing and Data-Backed Decision Making

The City of Cocoa Beach, FL was facing a surge in development driven by tourism growth, more cruise ships, and additional Space Coast launches, which put pressure on its paper-heavy permitting and review process. To keep up, the city partnered with OpenGov’s Permitting & Licensing solution to move permits online, improve coordination across departments, and better manage a growing volume of applications.

OpenGov helped Cocoa Beach centralize documents, streamline 24 permit types, speed FOIA retrieval by up to two hours per request, and improve reporting for workforce planning and hiring decisions. The city also improved collaboration among Development, Building, Planning, Code Enforcement, and Police, and is now expanding OpenGov use to business licensing to support continued growth.
