A OpenGov Case Study
Anderson County, a city and county in South Carolina, faced significant challenges in managing its public works and right-of-way permits due to outdated systems. Relying on paper files, scattered spreadsheets, and a clunky database, the county dealt with inefficiencies, slow utility approvals, and difficulty tracking permits as its population grew. To modernize these operations, the county partnered with OpenGov and implemented OpenGov Enterprise Asset Management.
The OpenGov solution provided a centralized, digital system for permit tracking, inspections, and data management. This enabled real-time collaboration, live permit mapping, and easy access to records from the field. As a result, Anderson County drastically improved efficiency; utility approvals now take less than a week instead of months, and the county has issued 9,000 encroachment permits, nearly doubling its permit volume in five years. OpenGov provided the tools for faster, data-driven decision-making and a system built for future growth.
