Business Process Redesign Starts with IT in Cambridge, MA

The City of Cambridge, MA’s IT department needed a flexible way to handle new pandemic-driven workflow challenges, including managing grant distributions through the Mayor’s Relief Fund. After already using OpenGov Permitting & Licensing for permitting, licensing, and code enforcement, the city looked to OpenGov as a go-to workflow engine to support faster, more transparent processes.

OpenGov implemented Permitting & Licensing to redesign business processes and move work online across departments. The city brought 32 permit and license types online initially, and is now expanding the platform across 8 departments and dozens of programs, including Pre-K Lottery and Housing Stabilization, improving efficiency, user experience, and the city’s ability to serve stakeholders.
