A Open Assessment Technologies Case Study
Elsevier Education, part of Elsevier, needed a flexible assessment authoring system that could fit into its existing ecosystem with ACRES and Sherpath. It was looking for a third-party option that could integrate easily, preserve intellectual property ownership of the assessment content, support QTI-compliant item types, and meet IMS certification standards. Elsevier chose Open Assessment Technologies’ TAO after evaluating eight possible solutions.
Open Assessment Technologies helped Elsevier complete the TAO/Sherpath integration in just six weeks, with minimal assistance from the TAO engineering team. In February 2016, the pilot involved 3,000 students, and since then Elsevier’s SMEs have created roughly 300 items using TAO. The integration gave students a single-login experience across lesson content, item authoring, and test delivery, and Elsevier planned a larger launch to tens of thousands of students in August 2016.
