A OnShift Case Study
Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care is a nonprofit serving 467 hospice and 180 palliative patients through two in‑patient units in North Carolina and in‑home services across 18 counties in NC and VA. The organization relied on paper schedules, phone call lists and disconnected time/pay systems, which consumed managers’ time, drove unnecessary overtime and incentive pay, and caused staff frustration over unfair and hard‑to‑track shift assignments.
The CEO implemented OnShift to provide online scheduling, mobile access, messaging and integration with time and payroll systems; this allowed managers to proactively control overtime and fill call‑offs quickly. From October 2019 to October 2020 the organization saved $61,608 in labor costs, reduced yearly employee overtime by 58%, cut incentive pay by 97.8%, and achieved faster shift fills, clearer communication, fairer schedules and improved staff satisfaction.
