Bluestem Communities Returns to OnShift for Person-Centered Care

Bluestem Communities, formed by the merger of Kidron Bethel Village and Schowalter Villa, is a long-term care organization offering skilled nursing, assisted living and independent living with more than 500 staff and a combined 145 years of senior care. After moving to an HRIS scheduling product that lacked a master schedule and neighborhood assignments, Bluestem was forced to maintain 17 role-specific schedules, creating lengthy scheduling processes, poor visibility into staffing and overtime, employee confusion, and rising labor costs.

Bluestem returned to OnShift’s scheduling and labor management software, integrating punch and employee data with their HRIS, consolidating 17 schedules into one master schedule, and using predictive overtime analytics and improved employee communications. The change delivered an 88% reduction in overtime within the first eight work periods, a 94% drop in time to make daily schedule changes and a 93% reduction in time to create month-long schedules, while enabling consistent staff-to-resident assignments and happier, more engaged employees.
